Ram With Ewes All Year: Sheep App Setup With No Lambing Season
Some farmers keep the ram with the ewes all year, so there is no breeding or lambing season. This video shows how to switch the EkBoer app to Ram stays in all year, what changes in your tasks and plan, how to choose what happens to each seasonal task, and how scanning and results work.

What you will learn
Is the ram in all year?
- No breeding or lambing season
- Setup, then How do you breed?
- Choose Ram stays in all year
- New farmers are also asked on Today
Some farmers keep the ram with the ewes all year, so there is no breeding or lambing season. If that is you, the app can work that way. Go to Setup, find, How do you breed, and choose, Ram stays in all year. New farmers are also asked this on the Today screen.
What the app changes
- Setup lists paused and repeating tasks by name
The standard programme was built for a lambing season, so the app changes how it works. Setup lists the tasks that are paused, and the ones that repeat every 12 months, by name.
Seasonal tasks are paused
- Paused: ram in and out, flushing
- Ram and ewe checks, udder check
- Late-pregnancy feed
- Abortion vaccine and pre-lambing booster
- Today shows how many are paused
Tasks timed from the lambing date are paused. That means ram in and out, flushing, ram and ewe checks, the udder check, late-pregnancy feed, the abortion vaccine, and the pre-lambing booster. Today shows how many are paused.
The yearly booster repeats
- Repeats every 12 months after each animal's own last dose
- Never had it: due once it has settled in
The yearly Ovi-Clos P booster repeats every 12 months, counted from each animal's own last dose. An animal that never had it is due once it has settled in.
You decide for each task
- Setup, tap Edit on the rule
- Under When the ram stays in all year choose:
- Pause it
- Repeat every 12 months after the last dose
- Or do it on a date each year
You decide for each of these tasks. In Setup, tap Edit on the rule, and under, When the ram stays in all year, choose what happens. Pause it. Repeat it every 12 months after the last dose. Or do it on a date each year.
Lambs and the Plan
- Lambs are not affected: shots count from each lamb's birth
- Plan: shots with a fixed date
- Plan: repeating shots
- Plan: lambs' shots by day after birth
Lambs are not affected. Their shots are still counted from each lamb's own birth, and weaning, newborn shots and boosters work as before. On the Plan tab there are no lambing dates, so it shows the shots with a fixed date, the repeating ones, and the lambs' shots by day after birth.
Put a ram in with ewes
- Breeding tab
- Put a ram in with ewes is optional
- It only remembers which ram ran with them
In the Breeding tab, Put a ram in with ewes is optional. It only remembers which ram ran with them.
Scan results and lambing
- Scan results: weeks to go for each ewe in lamb
- The Lambing soon list uses it
- Record lambing is the same as always
Scan results lets you record, for each ewe in lamb, about how many weeks are left, and the Lambing soon list uses that. Record lambing is the same as always.
Results: the last 12 months
- Lambs born and weaned per 100 ewes
- Average weaning weight
- Days between lambings
- Slow breeders
- Ewes that did not lamb in 12 months
The Results tab shows the last 12 months, not a season. You see lambs born and weaned per 100 ewes, the average weaning weight, days between lambings, slow breeders, and ewes that did not lamb in 12 months.
Nothing is deleted
- Animals, history and rules stay as they are
- Switch back to a breeding season at any time
Nothing is deleted when you switch. Your animals, history and rules stay exactly as they are, and you can switch back to a breeding season at any time.
