What you will learn
Start the import
- Animals tab, then Import from a spreadsheet
- New farmers also see it on Today
If your animals are already in Excel or Google Sheets, you do not have to type them again. On the Animals tab, tap Import from a spreadsheet. New farmers also see it on the Today screen.
Choose your file or paste
- Choose a .xlsx or .csv file
- Or copy the cells in Excel and paste them
Choose your file, either dot x l s x or dot c s v. Or copy the cells in Excel and paste them into the box.
Match the columns
- Check each column is matched correctly
- The app guesses from headings in English or Afrikaans
- Only the ID column is required
Check that each column is matched to the right thing: ID, sex, birth date, mother, sire, breed, registration number and so on. The app guesses from the headings, in English or Afrikaans, and you can change any of them. Only the ID column is required.
Animals already in your list
- Leave them as they are (safest)
- Only fill in what is empty
- Replace with the spreadsheet's values
Choose what happens to animals that are already in your list. Leave them as they are, which is safest. Only fill in what is empty. Or replace with the spreadsheet's values.
Read the summary, then import
- The summary shows new animals and skipped rows
- Nothing has changed yet
- Tap Import
- Not right? Tap Undo straight away
Read the summary. It tells you how many animals are new, and lists every row that will be skipped and why. Nothing has changed yet. Then tap Import. If it is not what you wanted, tap Undo straight away, or Undo the last import at the bottom of the Animals tab.
Weights, and good to know
- Weights: one row per weighing (ID, date, kg)
- Dates are read day first (29/08/2026)
- Wethers come in as rams, with a note
- An import never deletes anything
You can also import weights. Use one row per weighing, with the animal's ID, the date and the kilograms. Dates are read day first, like 29 slash 08 slash 2026. Wethers, or hamels, are brought in as rams with a note. An import never deletes anything. Your own records are kept unless you choose replace for animals already in your list.
